Hypertension

Hypertension is a non-communicable diseases. This means that you cannot contract it from someone like you would flu.

It is estimated that Hypertension cost the US government $131 to $198 billion each year.

The WHO estimates that close to 50% of people with hypertension do not know that they have it!

Hypertension has a multifactorial origin where different factors like a sedentary lifestyle, genetics, diet (especially diets high in salt) and other co-morbidities all play a roll in increasing the pressure in your arteries which is then called Hypertension or high blood pressure.

This is problematic as too high pressures can affect your organs. The most serious complications include a heart attack or stroke but hypertension also affects your kidneys, eyes and brain blood flow and heart muscle over time

What will happen if I get diagnosed with high blood pressure?

  • Your doctor will advise lifestyle changes i.e diet and exercise 
  • You might be started on blood pressure medication
